Welcome to the Home of the Southport Lightning

We are a nonprofit 501.C.(3) girls travel fastpitch softball Organization. Based out of the Southside of Indianapolis, it was started in 2010 by Brodey Doane. Brodey wanted to preparing a select group of players for high school, and college level softball by improving their skills beyond that of what a little league could offered. By providing a positive environment in which to nurture a players' self confidence, leadership skills, and sportsmanship the Southport Lightning hopes to develops the girls life-long friendships and a love of the game of softball. Lightning softball seeks to provide a program that develops the abilities and attitudes of our girls by winning with dignity, sportsmanship and working together towards a common goal. Through postive re-enforment and teamwork, the teams have responded with improveded abilities and have advanced beyond what would be expected. Thanks to a lot of hard work and support from our parents, board memebers and decated players, we have made the Southport Lightning into the competitive sport program we have today. If you are interested in obtaining more information about the Southport Lightning Organization, please contact any board member via email.

"I met Brodey Doane and I realized I was only functioning at 50%. With Brodey's help, I was able to harness much more of my potential. The six months that I was under Brodey's guidance were the most intense, but rewarding, of my softball career. Brodey devoted a great deal of energy to structuring a program for me. I was not assigned a generic set of drills and exercises based on my position as a pitcher, but by observing me in a game and practice situations, Brodey was able to pinpoint my weaknesses. The program he composed included cardio, weights, stretching, and technique drills designed to make me a stronger more balanced player and dominant pitcher. My wrist snap was very weak. Brodey worked very hard with me using unique drills and exercises to strengthen it and make it more effective. It got a lot better over a few months and I started being a lot more dominant as a pitcher. Brodey told me to use my muscle memory and remember how it felt. Often he would get me to close my eyes during a drill so I could concentrate on the feel of it and program my muscles to remember it. Today I can feel when my hip is lagging behind or I am being lazy with my wrist snap. Brodey also taught me that to be a dominant pitcher, the mental part is really important. One of the first things I learned about my mental game is never say never, and the word cannot is blaspheme to Brodey. He was the constant motivator, never letting me be discouraged, and always assuring me I was the greatest. People are always placing limits on themselves and Brodey believes we are limitless. Brodey encouraged me to set goals, both long and short term. With Brodey's Help, I was able to take control of my mental game. As a result of the time I spent working with Brodey, I became a much better pitcher. Every aspect of my game was improved. The physical portion: my technique, strength, and endurance. Also the mental portion: strategy, confidence and readiness.

DAD-isms

"WALK IT OFF"

Dad's all-purpose remedy for any sport related injury to the hip, leg or foot area, basically anything below the waist - fastball to the shin, bowling ball dropped on the toes, shoulder pad to the hip - this dadism is tried and true, 9 out of 10 times.... even through it flies in the face of conventional medical wisdom.
